Not many people know that there is one particular individual, who I completely owe my love for food to, and that is my father. His love and passion for food made him convert practically every meal consumed into a whole new experience and am yet to find someone who loved his food as much as he did.
I lost my father last week, he was just 50, and I guess this is just the right time to dedicate a complete post as a tribute to him.
His favorite dialogue was, “Who says that am 50.. Am just 21..” To which I always replied, “Yes daddy you’re 21, with a 22 year old daughter..”
One thing that I am gonna really really really miss about my father is our common love for food and our weekly daddy daughter dinner dates, in any part of the world.
The puri bhaji for breakfast and naan and paneer makhanwala and sinful melt in your mouth gulab jamun for lunch and dinner at Shikarwadi, Udaipur,
The Thai at Sabai, at Fullerton Bay, Singapore,
The authentic Nawabi food (better than what you get in India) at Nawab in Malaysia,
The regular trips to The Taj Mahal Palace and Hotel, Colaba, Mumbai,
The Annual trips that I had with him to Delhi for the amazing kulfis, the Parathas at parathawaali galli, The dinner at The Great Kebab Factory in Gurgaon,
The trips to Darjeeling and Gangtok for the amazing chai pakodas at The Elgin,
The aloo parathas at dhabas across Punjab,
The turrah naan and dal makhani at Caravan Serai, Bandra,
The early morning on our way to work breakfast at Eat Around the Corner, Bandra,
Our detailed tax discussions on every Saturday at Starbucks,
The sizzlers at Yoko, Hill road,
and sooooo many more.

Every memory that I have of you daddy, is related to food in some way or another.
You will be missed, everytime I go out for dinner, everytime I visit all your favorite joints, every minute of life, YOU are the reason why, I love food so so much.
Miss you daddy.
R.I.P.

This is so true ! i vividly remember that your dad loved ice-halwa a lot !!! and he hated greens in his food ! We will all surely miss him. May his soul rest in peace.

Yes Urmila,
I still remember the Ganesh Chaturthi of 2012 when we were made to rush to halwai immediately after the morning puja..

And yes, we still find it hard to believe that he has gone

πŸ™‚ Awesome Sucheta. Being a Tamil, I have observed that South Indian dishes / joints are conspicuously absent in your mention. Any particular reason? Vidya πŸ˜›

Nothing as such ma'am apart from the fact that i have really vague memories of my trips to the south with him as they happened really long ago.. But yes as you mention it, it does remind me that he very fondly spoke of the appams at MTR, Bangalore and did promise to take me there once.. Well, that's one promise left unfulfilled..
