Chaos Control Cafe, Parel
“The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”
The saying goes back to time in memorial and has held
true since then. To say the least, in our case.

The stage is set:
A hot Friday morning in the middle of May and Kri and
I find ourselves on board a local train from Andheri to Elphinstone Road at

I find ourselves on board a local train from Andheri to Elphinstone Road at

Why?
Breakfast!
Which sane person would do that? To add to it, we
didn’t know the way from Elphinstone Road station!

And a lot of wrong directions later, we found the
place (that, ironically, was right in front of our eyes).

A quaint little place on the footpath (that was oh so
warm and welcoming) near Hindmata flyover, Chaos Control Café is the best and
no frill placed where you can spend your mornings (I can only imagine how blissful
it will be in the monsoons)!

Chaos serves an assortment of toasts (and what delicious bread!!), sherbets, kulhad chai and coffee and paan; and since we were there at 7 am, we only got toast and chai and coffee and sherbet.
What we began our day with:
Kachari Masala Toast: Tangy by looks and taste, this toast is for anyone
who wishes to activate their taste buds at the first bite. Fresh spices and warm butter over soft bread,
was a good start.

Pudina Masala Toast: As much as I run the other way from this herb, the
dried ground version of it came as a surprise. Fresh masala with a little salt
and jeera powder, this was a delicious bite.

Nutella Toast: An all time favorite, there is always room for a
Nutella spread toast. Any time of the day, any number of times in a day!

Butter Dhaniya Chutney Toast: What I was craving for that morning, this brought
back school memories when we would raid a friend’s lunch box because their
mother was nice enough to send this instead of vegetables and roti/rice.

A buttered base
with yum dhaniya chutney on it, vanished in thin air!

Malai Shakkar (Sugar) Toast: Something we’ve seen in our homes all through our
lives and either loved or loathed. But in this case, it was pure joy. Something
so sinfully delicious.

(Facetiming with my
“Nanu” (my maternal grandmother) who is saat samundar paar while eating and
showing her I was having her favourite for breakfast was priceless)

Kesar Chai: This
is a treat for a tea lover. Served in a kulhad/tavi (mud mug) with just the
right amount of sugar and a tinge of kesar. No one can have just one.

Coffee: Since I like my coffee sweet, I had them add (a few)
extra spoons. Perfect to wake someone up!

Kri’s Mango Sherbat was

My Rose Sherbet was

blah!!
A wonderful morning that resulted us in bumping into my uncle on our way
back and ensuring he had a cuppa of the Kesar Chai at Chaos.
