Sapphire, The Emerald Hotel, Juhu
The Emerald Hotel has been around for quite some time and as young children, this, along with Hotel Sea Princess was the landmark that school is nearby and we should prepare to get off the school bus.
P.S. This was over 20 years ago.
Over the years, we have been visiting The Emerald Hotel for weddings, parties, weekly Rotary meetings and so much more, and have some good memories of this place, and when they got in touch with me to review the place, I just had to say yes.
The chef had a four course set meal prepared for us which comprised of most of their bestselling dishes from their healthy zero oil menu and their regular menu.
What we had:
Corn and Bell Pepper Chowder (INR 175++): A potato, corn and bell pepper soup, as exciting as this sounded, this was a thorough disappointment. Cold and Bland, everything that can go wrong with a soup went wrong with this one.
Tandoori Broccoli (INR 285++): The Tandoori Broccoli that followed was a pleasant surprise. Delicious, Spicy and fat free, the Tandoori Broccoli basically is broccoli florets marinated in some Punjabi spices and cooked in the tandoor; a little bit of chutney and you are good to go.
Jade Roll (INR 250++): Their version of the good old spring roll, this was crisp and delicious, stuffed with julienned vegetables and spinach, serve with a portion of schezwan sauce.
Paneer Churchuri (INR 335++): Crumbled paneer cooked with chopped vegetables in a tomato based gravy, topped with chopped peppers; this was more like paneer bhurji, but with a gravy and was nothing to rave about. Okay to be honest.
Dal Tadka (INR 245++): The good old Dal Tadka, something you cannot go wrong with, this was delicious and the assortment of rotis that accompanied this were simply delicious.
Lemon Rice (INR 270++): Another dish from their healthy, no oil menu; this again was good, but very regular. Nothing worth going out of the way for.
We also had a salad which was unforgettable.
Overall, a very average dining experience with an equal number of hits and misses.
Will I go back to The Emerald? Maybe.
