Banana Leaf, 7 Bungalows, Andheri West
What happened when
one of your favourite South Indian food joints in the western suburbs starts a
special breakfast menu?
You obviously go attack! What else?

Banana Leaf has
been around for quite a few years and has been a family favourite ever since.

Banana Leaf,
recently launched a breakfast menu that will be available every weekend from 7
am to 10 am and we were more than happy to have one of our recent family get together
there.

A large family
obviously means a hell lot of food and here is what we had:
obviously means a hell lot of food and here is what we had:
Medu Vada: A Hot, Crisp, delicious Indian Doughnut served with
an assortment of delicious Indian Chutneys and Sambhar; these, for the first
time at Banana Leaf weren’t appetising!
Either they were refried medu vada’s or there was something with that batter that
made it taste really weird; to such an extent that I didn’t take a second
helping of the vadas!

The Semiya
Upma that followed was one of the dishes of the day for me! Semiya (aka
sevaiyya) kheer is one of my favourite kheers and the sight of it being used to
prepare anything else except kheer makes me cringe; but this, this was
splendid! I ended up taking a second and a third serving too!

The South Indian
breakfast lover in me obviously needed no introduction to th family favourite Neer
Dosa and this was served at Banana Leaf were served with a chutney
specially made to go with this dosa and when you follow the chef’s
instructions, aren’t you in for some place in heaven! This, undoubtedly was one
of the best renditions of neer dosa that I have had in the city!

The Tomato
Omlette followed and this was a total disaster. Raw, very thick and you
could taste raw gramflour!

The upma lover in
me literally jumped at the sight of Upma on the menu and hence, the Rava
Upma arrived! Delicious Upma served topped with cashewnuts fried in
ghee; it surely cannot get any better! Every bite of this upma was a trip to
heaven and back, literally!!

We also had two
other upmas: Kesari Rava Upma and the Chickoo Sheera but I loved the Rava Upma
so much, that I just could not get myself
to even try these two and kept on going back for the rava upma instead!
Again and Again!

And finally, last
but not the least come my two favourites; the Onion Rava Sada kadak and
the Akhrot
Halwa! Again, Banana Leaf is known nail the rava dosa and also serve
the most fantasric akhrot halwa that the city has to offer and they once again,
have not ceased to impress me!
