Cafe Mangii, Powai
Lazy Saturday
afternoons that result in very long lunches are always the best Saturdays. One
of my recent Saturdays was spent at Café Mangi, Powaii sampling their delicious
new menu over lunch that was hosted by the Food Bloggers Association of India.

Having walked in an
hour late (for the first time in forever), I did miss a whole lot of
conversation and the Amuse Bouche too but then people at Café Mangii ensured I
don’t miss out on the food and got me some to relish.

We were in for a
lavish 10 course meal (no wonder we spent over 4 hours there) and each course took
our senses to a new high .

What we had:
Amuse Bouche
Plateau de Fromage: An assortment of cheese and luscious grapes and
bread, this was a visual delight and it did take me some efforts to convince
myself to break into a plate as beautiful as this one.

We also had a very
different and surprisingly yum Guava And Mint Granita. Different
because we always had guava with chilli and this was lovely.

Soup:
Potage Parmentier: A very luscious potato and leek soup topped with
some crispy spinach and pinch of paprika, this was by far the best soup I ever
had. Thick and filled with warmth, this was an instant mood setter.

Roasted Bell Pepper With Melba
Toast: The roasted bell
pepper soup was spicy, creamy and things yum but for me the potage permentia
was a dear winner. Oh and I could keep on eating the melba toast that was a
delight. A lightly herbed toast, this was yum.

The anti salad person
in me gave the salads a skip.

Small plates:
Crostini Di Polenta: My first time with polenta, these grilled polenta cakes
were yum.

Baked Jalapeno Molten: Jalapenos stuffed with an assortment of cheese and
some garlic, and then baked, these were so good. I could simply live off the
stuffing.

Pizza
La Casa Bianca: Okay, so I must say I was craving pizza all week and
seeing pizza on this menu was like heaven blessing me, literally! From the very
large variety, I called for the La Casa Bianca and lo behold, I was surely in
for a treat. A delicious combination of alfredo sauce instead of the
traditional tomato sauce topped with fried potato and assorted herbs and some
wonderful burrata, this was undoubtedly the most delicious pizza that I have
ever had.

Monali, Salloni and
I took less than 3 minutes to clean this out and I could go on eating this.

Pasta
Fusilli Mamarossa: The better amongst the two pastas that I had that
afternoon. A smoky – creamy – tomatoey sauce with broccoli florets, this was oh
so good!

Orechiette Al Pesto: The pesto based pasta closely followed and was yum
too; but I, perosnally preferred the mamarossa over this one.

Mains
Grilled Cottage Cheese Steak: A dish straight out of the Masterchef Australia
kitchen, all complete with the beurre blanc and what not. A visual delight,
this is amongst the best dishes I have come cross in recent times.

Dessert
An assortment of

Apple Crumble: I have had the apple crumble at Cafe Mangii before
and one thing I can say about this dish is, the flavours and presentation has
been consistent over the years! The dish is still equally warm and loving as it
always has been.

Velvet Brick Brownie: “Looks can be Deceiving” is a phrase that can be
aptly used for this dish. The red made me cringe initially, but when I had my first
bite, it was so good that I stopped only after cleaning out the plate.
