Tasse De Thé – The Experience, Mumbai
Tasse De Thé, the experience!
An experience as I call it, this meal that I had yesterday was truly unique and a one of a kind experience.
From the word go, there is something about this “Tea Bar and Fine Dine” as they call it, that leaves you mesmerised.
The carved logo on the stairs to the Victorian Gate that you go through and those arches and chandeliers, there is something about the beauty of this place that makes you fall in love.
All of this and the pastel colours give out such positive vibes and truly enhance the dining experience.
We focussed on most of the dishes that were soft and easy to chew since my lunch date just had an extraction!
Are You Lonesome Tonight (It’s soothing memory will linger on and we bet you won’t feel lonesome tonight) (INR 387++): Yes, that’s what the dish was called. This was a soup made of chamomile infused coconut milk, pistachios and basil! The sweetness of coconut milk with strong pistachio flavours with a mild chamomile after taste, this was a refreshing surprise; but we could not go beyond a few sips.
Twist and Shout (Twist it and give it the Shout out that it deserves) (INR 427++): aka Smoked Cottage cheese on Sugarcane Sticks. More like paneer burji on sugarcane, this was delicious and difficult to put down. One may find it bland and when eaten just the way it is, but a dip in the mint chutney that accompanied it lifts the dish to an entire new high.
Forever Young (INR 557++): Thick slices of potatoes, confit cooked topped with an assortment of cheese, cracked black pepper and a drizzle of truffle oil. We ordered this without the truffle oil and fell in love with this dish and how! Not too cheesy and not very salty, with just the right amount of pepper; truly the best poutine I have ever had!
New Kid in Town (This one’s a new kid in town that everyone will be talking about) (INR597++): A large deep fried dumpling filled with mac and cheese served in a bowl of the finest tomato basil soup (unlike the minestrone soup mentioned in the menu) one could ever come across, eating this was a sheer delight. When you crack open the dumpling, the mac and cheese oozes out, absorbing all the soup and turning into a delicious gooey mess that fills with oodles of love and warmth!
Stairway to Heaven (Are you buying this stairway to heaven?) (INR 527++): AKA dauphinoise potatoes. For those who don’t know, dauphinoise potatoes are finely sliced, parboiled potatoes layered with cheese, cream, garlic and lots of butter, then baked. The Tasse De Thé version was a generous portion of dauphinoise potatoes on a bed of freshly made pesto, topped with sautéed vegetables. Eat this dish, just as it comes out of the oven and you shall know why is it called the Stairway to Heaven. The basil from pesto and the olives from the vegetables help cut the starch and cheesiness of the dish, making it the perfect combination.
I’m Feeling You (You’ll feel love when you’ll feel this) (INR 377++): Deconstructed masala chai is what it actually was, and to us, this was just a hotch potch of flavours and a dish with extreme high potential gone extremely wrong. The only way for us to overcome this was dig into large scoops of homemade masala chai ice cream at home.
Something Beautiful (Truly something beautiful that’s come your way) (INR 427++): Undoubtedly the best version of a hazelnut mousse, this was crunchy with the crushed roasted hazelnuts that were added to the mousse, layered between sheets of tempered chocolate on a bed of feuilletine crisp, served with some paprika-caramel popcorn. You know, those dishes that leave you speechless, and you secretly pray that God blesses the chef for making something that has filled you with so much joy that you are at a loss of words; well, this was that dish for me!
A fabulous dining experience overall, I simply can’t wait to go back to this place and make maa experience the beauty and grandeur of such a wonderful restaurant!
Also, did you know the entire restaurant is vegetarian only!
